Swiftfilehosting.com - Free File Hosting June 24, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 2 commentsSwiftfilehosting.com was recently taken over by myself, my aims for the site are to improve it and to promote it and get it out there and known. The site itself used to be quite big however I went through the site and deleted around 3GB of illegal data, which included the likes of illegal copyrighted materials such as Mp3’s, images, scripts etc. What was left was a 1.6GB left over and we can push much more than this whenever we like we can near enough push over 1TB of bandwidth if we wanted however that would most probably be the limit if we weren’t making profit from the site. The site is actually PageRank 3, which excited me as it will be easy to market and the site has also been around near enough 9 months; providing such service.
The file hosting service utilizes a nifty script, which allows you to create directories in which you can upload images to and of course files in general. It utilizes an easy to register sign up and accounts are approved immediately, however all files are checked on a daily basis; so don’t think you’ll get away with uploading anything illegal or against our terms of service. The file hosting service I believe has been quite a success and the actual site was given to me as the owner no-longer wanted it, so I thought I should build it up and see if I could make anything of it.
So far, I’ve just transferred the site and files to my own servers and I’m verging on transferring the domain name to name.com from bluehost.com; though that doesn’t seem in my opinion to be going well though hopefully the domain transfer will actually take place and happen!
So if you want an easy to use, reliable file hosting service, I urge you to visit Swiftfilehosting.com, I’m also thinking on adding a public uploader along with a public gallery where people can see files/images uploaded.
Stay tuned.
6 month review of WiredTree.com June 19, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Internet, My Sites, Other, Webmaster , add a commentI have been with WiredTree.com for around six months and I praise the very floor they walk on, they have been very consistent in the time they have set to respond to tickets, it seems their time limit is 15 minutes however I’ve always noticed them reply in just 5 - 10 minutes. - Which is astounding for such provider to offer such unique service, from which I have not seen elsewhere with all the moving of providers I have been doing; they are by far the best service I have ever been with! The six months I have been with them, there was no downtime which I could evidently see in front of myself, unless the actual server was having problems; all you’d have to do is contact them they would fix it. What makes me personally feel comfortable with WiredTree is that they give pro-active support which is awesome as it takes that feeling of your website going down out the window and if there is ever a time which it does go down, in a few minutes it will be up or an explanation given seeing as they literally reply to you in minutes.
Now I currently only have 1 VPS with them and I’m ordering a hybrid server - now I would usually only pick companies which offer dedicated servers as I’m not to keen in sharing a server with others (With other services running on it) though with the service they have provided me, there is no room for complaint; they provide a competent service which they don’t fuss around with. e.g. they do their job with pure professionalism and there is also a personal touch as if you were there only customer as they are just literally replying to you at such a fast rate; it’s as if they should have an instant messenger support available (I wish)! Well, just think of this scenario:
Say if you were having a really bad day and your VPS/Server was just constantly going wrong due to yourself making changes to the core of the files in your OS system - they would literally be the ‘knights in shining armour coming to pick you up and fix you’ or in this term they would fix or enhance upon the changes you made!
They are what we call a ‘Quality provider’! Some may think they are expensive however I believe ‘you get what you pay for’ and they aren’t that expensive, to be honest, they are actually quite cheap if you start comparing them against other providers who offer the same kind of service. e.g. a competing service. Literally if you want a backbone behind you, which what I mean is something you can fall back on if you can’t fix something; then go with WiredTree as they have provided me sufficient backbone in order to provide a running service which I did have and still am running with clients who I now host for free, since Vlexo went totally free as of early this month, though in heart we have always been a free provider! Since my last host who I was co-owner of went bust to the actual owner not being able to afford payments after 1 year of being up and was still on a reseller account with this flimsy (In my opinion) reseller host; I wanted to make a difference with Vlexo and I made sure I was able to afford running it. - With WT it has made this possible as a lot of costs have been cut with providers charging over the moon with a less impressive service in my opinion from my personal experience.
Now I tried to go even cheaper with my free users (Which was wrong; not morally however) as WT provided a much better service for a much better price; considering what I was getting and the level of service which was/is being provided. I’m thankful that such service is around as I bet I’ll be using their service for the next 5 years if not more if ‘they’ or ‘I’ are still around!
Just to make this clear, we have had some recent network downtime (Or our free users have) as they are still with the ‘old’ budget provider I was with, however we are moving fast away from this provider and migrating to WiredTree.com! Nevertheless we still use and have services with WiredTree!
Thanks for reading my review of WT, they trully deserve it!

Oldest Registered domains! June 9, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 2 commentsSo I was looking on the web for a the ‘oldest’ registered domain names and thankfully iwhois.com had a list otherwise it would have taken me countless hours finding old websites on the internet! I came interested in this as ‘Velton’ a guy on freewebspace (Free Web Hosting forum) posted about stargate.com and someone mentioned that it was one of the oldest domain names on the web; to be created. - I actually thought Dreamhost was old! However when I found out there were domains registered back near enough 20 years ago, I’m quite astounded!

Most of the domains above, if not all have active websites running, some with high pagerank and of course some with low pagerank. (Low as in the amount of the time these websites have been running) I find it amazing these websites are still running since 20 years ago, I’m also astonished big companies invested into the internet for such domains to be invested into their business! - Imagine what they paid for a domain back then? (I found out it was actually much more than what domains were paid for in todays money) I just found this interesting to blog about, so if you come across this post, make sure to comment and tell us what you think! ![]()
Google changed favicon.ico! June 4, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farI’m a bit late on this one, as they Google recently changed their favicon.ico, which I noticed when visiting their main site and of course forums, discussing why they changed it. Though people have been complaining how they have changed it however they don’t know why, as they personally believe their old one was better.
They have changed their favicon from this:
To this:
I’m actually inclined to say that their old one was much better, though maybe the big G is trying to change their image with this small favicon.ico? Though I’m not sure why people are complaining to the extremes saying ‘it sucks’, it’s just a favicon.ico people and if Google wants to change it, that’s their choice! There has been no official blog about the change of the .ico, however I don’t think there would need to be as it’s such a small thing! ![]()
