Yahoo Publisher Network May 29, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 2 commentsAfter a long time of Yahoo Publisher Network being in beta, they are yet still in beta and I’m guesstimating around 2 and half years of them being in beta they are still refining their ad system. Now a lot of people are interested in joining ‘YPN’, as they see it in the same league as Google AdSense as they are both competing companies (as a whole if you compare each company and what they offer next to the other). I myself have been quite interested in joining Yahoo Publisher Network as it seems like an interesting program which could make me and my services more money.
However seeing as it’s still in ‘beta’ it’s only available to people with a valid US social security number, thus my dilemma. The thing is, I don’t and no one else knows that if they come out of beta, will YPN be readily be available to the world? - My answer and firm belief to this is ‘no’, I believe they will only be available for those in the US, which is quite sad as we need big competitors in this game to make things ‘happen’. - I wish Yahoo stepped up on production, it’s as if only one person is correcting any issues within their system. Time will tell if they come out of beta and offer to the World, time will tell.
Check out my post back in January 2007 (A year and a half ago), we are still talking about Yahoo coming out of beta, that is an absurd amount of time for a service to be in beta for such a long time. I just hope they do go world wide as from what I’m seeing their service is deteriorating and ads are are being switched from YPN to AdSense from what I’ve seen on a fair few forums. - Yahoo need to get their act together, it’s like Airbus developing their aeroplane and their customers were complaining on how long it was going to take to develop and build those giant jets and of course get to their customers. - They surpassed this as they made compromises, which is what I think Yahoo should do, compromise and develop along the way with the rest of the World instead of one country.
It also seems that they are hiding the fact that their service isn’t going to be distributed to the rest of the World, though I can’t say this for sure however surely in their mind people would have sent them all the emails in the world asking if they would be offering YPN to the rest of the World! - With a such a big business such as Yahoo!, you’d be thinking they would answer this very question, as is it a huge question for a lot of website owners looking to earn revenue. Though for some reason, I just don’t get why they are segregating their service to just one Country, why not take the full advantage of the World? Is it because they don’t have enough advertisers to actually get their publisher network running? (As I heard quite a while ago that concentrated ads on a contextual basis wasn’t working for some of the publishers I had heard on some big webmaster forums) - Though most blamed this on them still being in beta, thus meaning they hadn’t got their system refined and bug-free in 2 years + or could this just be a cover up story seemingly trying to cover up that they don’t have enough advertisers to offer a contextual based service. Thus meaning they are in the same league or advertisement grouping which puts them along the lines of such services like ‘Bidvertiser.com’?
Who knows? No one, all we can do is speculate. “No one” - Actually I know, I remember emailing YPN back in 2006, when they did indeed have a ‘Contact us’ page, where you could contact them however this seems to have disappeared. This is the reply I got from them back in ‘06. I even have the case number so Yahoo can reference this and so I can prove this legit:
Case number: #85440984 (Even though this is pretty useless, as you would have to get it confirmed by YPN and seeing as they seemingly don’t like to respond to emails anymore, I suspect the above email back from the email I sent them in 06′ was a guesstimate, which is off the scale) - Though I guess YPN could easily deny existence of this email, but seriously, it’s ‘08 NOW, it was ‘06 when I sent that. How long does it really take to develop a working system, with the time and money, they probably invested into YPN? They could have probably talked to Google about buying and sharing their system if they invested so much time and money into Yahoo Publisher Network!, which I’m seeing as a failing concept. - This is not because of the openness of this project (e.g. with them not allowing others to join the program outside of the US; or without a valid US tax) it’s becuase the current US ‘testers’ are leaving this project for Google AdSense. As it targets the World, where Yahoo Publisher Network! only targets the United States of America; so it has a huger audience to publishers/webmasters wanting to make big money with AdSense compared to Yahoo Publisher Network!, from wherever that IP/user visits and clicks on whatever ad with AdSense.
Though let’s expand on this 06′ I recieved a reply back from:

Hello,
As you know the Yahoo! Publisher Network self-serve platform is currently available as an invitation-only beta. Our goal is to learn from the feedback we receive during the initial beta period, refine the platform and add new features, then open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006. At this time we do not have a date set for release.
We’re looking forward to working with you to build a strong and successful community through the Yahoo! Publisher Network.
Sincerely,
Brian Anderson

Extract:
“Our goal is to learn from the feedback we receive during the initial beta period, refine the platform and add new features, then open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006″
So it takes over 2 years to learn from feedback? Believable due to the huge amounts of emails on an educated guess, though for this type of service, it simply is scary to think that it’s still in beta after so many years. So then Brian Aderson says “open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006“, 2006 has gone and passed, where is the stance of this program on giving the option of using such service for World use? Or for Countries which are similar to the properties which what the United States can offer in terms of ‘quality traffic’. I guess, we’ll never know, unless Yahoo either speaks out or gives us the lowdown/update on whats happening with their service in terms of offering such service to other Countries; as it doesn’t have to necessarily be the World!
Namecheap down May 15, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a commentSo I was looking to update a couple of my domain names to new nameservers however I can’t as namecheap is down! I’m getting the following message when visiting their main website, I guess I’ll have to wait, but I don’t mind, as long as they don’t disappear like that other company *cough* Registerfly! Below is the error I’m getting with namecheap, hopefully they will be able to get their “Maintenance” over and done with ASAP, as I’m looking forward to changing my name servers, as I’m in dire need to change the nameservers (IPs) for my clients as they are being moved to another server.
This is the first time, I’v seen this kind of message on Namecheap.com, I have never actually seen this before, maybe I was paying attention? Either-way, they are down and I need to access my domains by this afternoon or I’ll have emails being shot at me from my clients saying what’s going and this and that! So namecheap, please hurry up with your Maintenance! I love namecheap’s service however it’s things like this which make people ‘think’ on the ability for namecheap to provide what it says.
Edit: It seems to be back up and running now, kudos to Namecheap.com!
Funny thread on FWS May 12, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a commentSo it seems like I’m having the knack of commenting of forum posts, which I find somewhat funny… as said I have a weird sense of humour! Bassically this guy on freewebspace made a thread posting that he’d sponsor people with any web ideas or with current occuring websites, he said he’d pay for web hosting and anything really for a share of the profits that website is making. Here’s the thread:
http://freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=220763
So I guess if you have an idea, that need developing, I suggest you go to this guy as he seems quite genuine, though I will not authenticate that. :p - So choose him at your own risk. I guess I found him quite funny as he said: “Please do not TRY AND SCAM ME i am not a RETARD.”
I love this. :d

Interested in a competition? Well James from Free-space.net is offering up to a $1000 USD on a competition he is starting up which is similar to the show ‘The Apprentice’ however this seems totally web-based! I believe this competition actually might be a success as I’ve never seen anything like it on the Internet! - I’ve signed up for it myself, hopefully I can get my hands on that amount of cash, though I seriously don’t know how he can give all that money away! - Probably because he gets control of the web host which we the ‘apprentices’ or entrepreneurs build up, maybe he thinks we can build up succesful web hosts which are worth over what he is giving us, so he might be making money out of this! - If so, what an idea and kudos to him for thinking it up.
Take a look at that thread above and send off an application to James, I’m sure he’d be happy enough to accomadate whatever question you need answering. To finish it off, this is Sir Alan Sugar, with his famous catch phrase “You’re Fired!”:

Statistics!
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a commentJust some random statistics above, basically the Askimet picture is one from inside my wordpress admin control panel, and Askimet is a spam-combatting service which Wordpress provide in conjunction with Askimet! - It’s actually doing pretty good in stopping spam comments, thus why I installed it on the Vlexo blog. As for the other statistic that statistic is one from my Yahoo Mail, which I’ve had for around 2 years, I literally do have 17,000+ emails however I would say most of them are legit email though there are quite a few spam emails, that get deleted by me! - Urgh what a time waster! I hate spammers!
If you have any random statistics, please post em’ up here! Or write up a blog response on your own wordpress blog!
Oh free advertising
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a commentWhat I love about free web hosting is that you can advertise your web host for free on big websites which can make you receive a modest amount of hits; unique hits. The most popular directories for free hosting are those with keywords which come up on google “Free Hosting”, “cPanel Hosting”, “Ad-Free Hosting”, “Post for hosting” and so on! I’ve basically used this method and have successfully found a lot of directory free web hosts or free web hosting review sites which offer the ability to advertise your host, by placing a small button on your website! - Which is all done for free, these websites rank in the PR6-7 range, and receive literally (or they must) over 100 thousand hits per day. - These are the websites you need to advertise on, if you really want to run a successful hosting business as you need to get your traffic from somewhere without straining on by posting on forums or even marketing. I mean I do still post my host on some fairly large forums, which are specifically for free hosting.
Moving on, I have actually compiled a list of websites/directories you can advertise on for free (Free hosts/Image hosts/File Hosts/Free services), I have these in a .txt file explaining each and every of these websites and how long they take to get back to emailing you. - It’s amazing what you can find on the web, you these free review/directory sites offering free linking on their directory while you have these other big websites saying you have to pay to advertise your free host in one’s directory. - Though I guess it’s the nut of the shell, you need to break the system and hopefully once you do this, just sit back and relax and watch the traffic flow in.
What people do for money! May 11, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : AdNetwork, Other, Search Engines, Uncategorized , 2 commentsSo I was looking around on digitalpoint and I came across this thread in the ‘freebies’ section and I looked at the thread title and it said: “Earn $.05 thru paypal”, I was like thinking to myself, this can’t be right, he must be meaning $5, however knowing it was digitalpoint, I knew almost after reviewing the thread that he was giving away $0.05 USD away. I haven’t actually replied to that thread, but I really thought it was funny… (I have a odd sense of humour)
Here’s the link:
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=831649
I find it hilarious that the thread is so popular, I’m even thinking of creating my own $.05 thread to get people posting on my forum or blog… but damn $.05! That is seriously killing me! Here is the screenshot of the original post:
This has taught me a lesson, anyone will do anything for money, even if it is that low.
- So I’m going to make my own post on there. ![]()
Big US carriers May 10, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment
So I was looking around on the web and downloaded Google Earth and I must say, it’s bloody amazing! I even came across these US aircraft carriers on Google Earth and some submarines along with one of the Royal Navies aircraft carriers (small compared to the US one’s) But I must say, the US carriers are damn impressive, I actually found four US carriers, I know there are like 10 Nimitz class carriers? But I must say Google Earth is quite amazing, whoever thought it up is a genius! I even went round my fathers house and showed him and he was pretty damn amazed when I showed him ‘Malta’ (Where his mother was born and where he lived for most of his life, until he moved to the UK)! Kudos to Google for making such an engine which you’d be able to see down ontop of every Country in the world.
I also came accross a Chinese carrier (recently converted Russian carrier) - it looks pretty good for my view up in the sky.
You can download Google Earth here:
How about a review website? May 8, 2008
Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farSo I own the domain: freecpanelhost.ws (I registered it back in 07, in November)
I’ve been thinking to myself, I’ve got all these domains, why don’t I use them? So I chose the above domain to work on, I’m going to be creating a review website. - I know that that there are quite a lot of review websites out their, however this review site in particular is for cPanel Hosts only, as this is what users on the web seem to favour. (cPanel.net) Hopefully I can make this review site BIG and perhaps I can see what happens, though vigerous advertising usually does the trick and getting your link in the right places, epscially when advertising on Google AdWords.
Watch the above link, I hope to transform it, into SOMETHING! - Even if that means a review blog with all the hosts I have been with, but all in all, I will be making a review site for hosts to submit their hosts and for users to submit their reviews. - Hopefully this will turn out well!
–
Talking about review websites for free hosting, free-webhosts.com is one of them, they probably give Vlexo.com 80% of our traffic, as they do not just list you on ONE website, they actually list you on a variety of different websites. - I’d recommend that all hosts should sign up to their directory - and watch the traffic flow in WITHOUT even advertising to much. - It’s amazing what that directory can direct people to!
–
I’m also selling a domain of mine ‘FileCarrier.com‘, I was going to make it a file hosting website, using celerondudes upload script, which that script is pretty immense! - However it didn’t really work out as I didn’t have time to develop it, nor make a pretty template to go with it, to give it a unique feel.

I’d just like to promote this website above, for the cause they are giving to the British Armed forces personell who have been injured during action.
I just think that the cause of the above website is unbelievable and outstanding, I have already donated to this cause and I value EVERYTHING our armed forces have given us. Furthermore, this orginisation has collected over: £4 million for our armed forces injured personell! I was actually looking around on their website and I found this really inspiring statement, which I’d like to share with everyone:

“What is H4H all about? It’s about the blokes, our men and women. It’s about Derri, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It is about Ben, its about Steven and Andy and Mark, its about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.”- Bryn Parry Appeal Chairman
Just an amazing cause, I am very interested in what the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, but this website takes (myself) the policts out of the war and to those who are suffering becuase of it. Kudos to H4H, continue doing your work helping our personell who have fought for our freedom.
London elections 2008 May 3, 2008

So I’ve been keeping quite a close eye on the London elections and it seems Boris Johnson from the Conservative party won and thus the ending of Ken Livingstone’s (Labour party) 8 year of running London and speaking for it has ended.
Votes Statistics
Conservatives:- 1,168,738 for first and second inclination votes. (Boris Johnson)
Labour:- 1,028,966 (Ken Livingstone)
What I saw on the BBC last night was 2 men fighting for victory, however Boris won and he didn’t say anything bad about Ken, which I thought was nice of him, since if you watch the channel ‘Parliament 24′ (I think that’s right?) you will see nothing but people slandering each other. - It’s actually quite funny, but then if you look at the bigger picture you have two people fighting like children e.g. Gordon Brown and David Cameron, they just do it in a more incentive and clever way. Though back to the elections, I’m quite happy that Ken is out, as I HOPE that Boris Johnson hasn’t won just because of the votes, I hope he has won as I dearly hope he has good leadership capabilities and I sincerely HOPE that he changes London to decrease the crime it currently has.
Boris seems like a good person, especially when viewing this video, I just watched on YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Iy88oS9iY9A
He talks about combating crime, a cleaner London and especially recycling, which I think is a major crime in itself! I hope Boris puts his words into action, because I believe London does need improvement and crime needs to be talked about in a way never before. I’ve also read up on other blogs and news sites that Johnson hopes to provide a 24hour policing service - GREAT idea, should significantly de-militarise crime.
