FunnImaging.com - New Project July 2, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

What is FunnyImaging.com?

FunnyImaging.com is a website where people can view ‘funny’ images, which is the intended purpose of the website, users can even upload their own funny images; which of course get approved by admin(s). The website is intended just for a laugh and we hope you enjoy the images displayed on the website as there are quite a few of them, so if you have any funny images, make sure you upload it to funnyimaging.com, we are waiting for you!

It’s my new project, I’m working on, I’m thinking of building up and advertising a portfolio of websites and this is one of them I’d be happy to advertise. Though I do need to add more decent images and perhaps a blog which explains what the website is about with RSS feeds linking from the mainpage to the actual blog. It’s only something which I wanted to start up and it seems like a fun kind of website to run and especially an extremely easy one at best. :)

Below is just one of the images which we have up and running:

There are a few sexy one’s as well, but no naked/porn kind of stuff, however some of the images are just funny; thus why it’s called Funnyimaging.com. - I also thought I made a good choice in picking the domain name and was surprised why it wasn’t already registered. I’m going to try and raise it’s pagerank and see how much it fetches in auction. - Hopefully I’ll be able to earn some side cash via Google AdSense as I’m actually doing pretty well with it.

Thanks for reading,

Swiftfilehosting.com - Free File Hosting June 24, 2008

Swiftfilehosting.com

Swiftfilehosting.com was recently taken over by myself, my aims for the site are to improve it and to promote it and get it out there and known. The site itself used to be quite big however I went through the site and deleted around 3GB of illegal data, which included the likes of illegal copyrighted materials such as Mp3’s, images, scripts etc. What was left was a 1.6GB left over and we can push much more than this whenever we like we can near enough push over 1TB of bandwidth if we wanted however that would most probably be the limit if we weren’t making profit from the site. The site is actually PageRank 3, which excited me as it will be easy to market and the site has also been around near enough 9 months; providing such service.

The file hosting service utilizes a nifty script, which allows you to create directories in which you can upload images to and of course files in general. It utilizes an easy to register sign up and accounts are approved immediately, however all files are checked on a daily basis; so don’t think you’ll get away with uploading anything illegal or against our terms of service. The file hosting service I believe has been quite a success and the actual site was given to me as the owner no-longer wanted it, so I thought I should build it up and see if I could make anything of it. :) So far, I’ve just transferred the site and files to my own servers and I’m verging on transferring the domain name to name.com from bluehost.com; though that doesn’t seem in my opinion to be going well though hopefully the domain transfer will actually take place and happen!

So if you want an easy to use, reliable file hosting service, I urge you to visit Swiftfilehosting.com, I’m also thinking on adding a public uploader along with a public gallery where people can see files/images uploaded.

Stay tuned. :)

6 month review of WiredTree.com June 19, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Internet, My Sites, Other, Webmaster , add a comment

I have been with WiredTree.com for around six months and I praise the very floor they walk on, they have been very consistent in the time they have set to respond to tickets, it seems their time limit is 15 minutes however I’ve always noticed them reply in just 5 - 10 minutes. - Which is astounding for such provider to offer such unique service, from which I have not seen elsewhere with all the moving of providers I have been doing; they are by far the best service I have ever been with! The six months I have been with them, there was no downtime which I could evidently see in front of myself, unless the actual server was having problems; all you’d have to do is contact them they would fix it. What makes me personally feel comfortable with WiredTree is that they give pro-active support which is awesome as it takes that feeling of your website going down out the window and if there is ever a time which it does go down, in a few minutes it will be up or an explanation given seeing as they literally reply to you in minutes.

Now I currently only have 1 VPS with them and I’m ordering a hybrid server - now I would usually only pick companies which offer dedicated servers as I’m not to keen in sharing a server with others (With other services running on it) though with the service they have provided me, there is no room for complaint; they provide a competent service which they don’t fuss around with. e.g. they do their job with pure professionalism and there is also a personal touch as if you were there only customer as they are just literally replying to you at such a fast rate; it’s as if they should have an instant messenger support available (I wish)! Well, just think of this scenario:

Say if you were having a really bad day and your VPS/Server was just constantly going wrong due to yourself making changes to the core of the files in your OS system - they would literally be the ‘knights in shining armour coming to pick you up and fix you’ or in this term they would fix or enhance upon the changes you made!

They are what we call a ‘Quality provider’! Some may think they are expensive however I believe ‘you get what you pay for’ and they aren’t that expensive, to be honest, they are actually quite cheap if you start comparing them against other providers who offer the same kind of service. e.g. a competing service. Literally if you want a backbone behind you, which what I mean is something you can fall back on if you can’t fix something; then go with WiredTree as they have provided me sufficient backbone in order to provide a running service which I did have and still am running with clients who I now host for free, since Vlexo went totally free as of early this month, though in heart we have always been a free provider! Since my last host who I was co-owner of went bust to the actual owner not being able to afford payments after 1 year of being up and was still on a reseller account with this flimsy (In my opinion) reseller host; I wanted to make a difference with Vlexo and I made sure I was able to afford running it. - With WT it has made this possible as a lot of costs have been cut with providers charging over the moon with a less impressive service in my opinion from my personal experience.

Now I tried to go even cheaper with my free users (Which was wrong; not morally however) as WT provided a much better service for a much better price; considering what I was getting and the level of service which was/is being provided. I’m thankful that such service is around as I bet I’ll be using their service for the next 5 years if not more if ‘they’ or ‘I’ are still around! :)

Just to make this clear, we have had some recent network downtime (Or our free users have) as they are still with the ‘old’ budget provider I was with, however we are moving fast away from this provider and migrating to WiredTree.com! Nevertheless we still use and have services with WiredTree! :)

Thanks for reading my review of WT, they trully deserve it!

Oldest Registered domains! June 9, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

So I was looking on the web for a the ‘oldest’ registered domain names and thankfully iwhois.com had a list otherwise it would have taken me countless hours finding old websites on the internet! I came interested in this as ‘Velton’ a guy on freewebspace (Free Web Hosting forum) posted about stargate.com and someone mentioned that it was one of the oldest domain names on the web; to be created. - I actually thought Dreamhost was old! However when I found out there were domains registered back near enough 20 years ago, I’m quite astounded!

Most of the domains above, if not all have active websites running, some with high pagerank and of course some with low pagerank. (Low as in the amount of the time these websites have been running) I find it amazing these websites are still running since 20 years ago, I’m also astonished big companies invested into the internet for such domains to be invested into their business! - Imagine what they paid for a domain back then? (I found out it was actually much more than what domains were paid for in todays money) I just found this interesting to blog about, so if you come across this post, make sure to comment and tell us what you think! :)

Google changed favicon.ico! June 4, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so far

I’m a bit late on this one, as they Google recently changed their favicon.ico, which I noticed when visiting their main site and of course forums, discussing why they changed it. Though people have been complaining how they have changed it however they don’t know why, as they personally believe their old one was better.

They have changed their favicon from this:

To this:

I’m actually inclined to say that their old one was much better, though maybe the big G is trying to change their image with this small favicon.ico? Though I’m not sure why people are complaining to the extremes saying ‘it sucks’, it’s just a favicon.ico people and if Google wants to change it, that’s their choice! There has been no official blog about the change of the .ico, however I don’t think there would need to be as it’s such a small thing! :)

Yahoo Publisher Network May 29, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , 2 comments

After a long time of Yahoo Publisher Network being in beta, they are yet still in beta and I’m guesstimating around 2 and half years of them being in beta they are still refining their ad system. Now a lot of people are interested in joining ‘YPN’, as they see it in the same league as Google AdSense as they are both competing companies (as a whole if you compare each company and what they offer next to the other). I myself have been quite interested in joining Yahoo Publisher Network as it seems like an interesting program which could make me and my services more money.

However seeing as it’s still in ‘beta’ it’s only available to people with a valid US social security number, thus my dilemma. The thing is, I don’t and no one else knows that if they come out of beta, will YPN be readily be available to the world? - My answer and firm belief to this is ‘no’, I believe they will only be available for those in the US, which is quite sad as we need big competitors in this game to make things ‘happen’. - I wish Yahoo stepped up on production, it’s as if only one person is correcting any issues within their system. Time will tell if they come out of beta and offer to the World, time will tell.

Check out my post back in January 2007 (A year and a half ago), we are still talking about Yahoo coming out of beta, that is an absurd amount of time for a service to be in beta for such a long time. I just hope they do go world wide as from what I’m seeing their service is deteriorating and ads are are being switched from YPN to AdSense from what I’ve seen on a fair few forums. - Yahoo need to get their act together, it’s like Airbus developing their aeroplane and their customers were complaining on how long it was going to take to develop and build those giant jets and of course get to their customers. - They surpassed this as they made compromises, which is what I think Yahoo should do, compromise and develop along the way with the rest of the World instead of one country.

It also seems that they are hiding the fact that their service isn’t going to be distributed to the rest of the World, though I can’t say this for sure however surely in their mind people would have sent them all the emails in the world asking if they would be offering YPN to the rest of the World! - With a such a big business such as Yahoo!, you’d be thinking they would answer this very question, as is it a huge question for a lot of website owners looking to earn revenue. Though for some reason, I just don’t get why they are segregating their service to just one Country, why not take the full advantage of the World? Is it because they don’t have enough advertisers to actually get their publisher network running? (As I heard quite a while ago that concentrated ads on a contextual basis wasn’t working for some of the publishers I had heard on some big webmaster forums) - Though most blamed this on them still being in beta, thus meaning they hadn’t got their system refined and bug-free in 2 years + or could this just be a cover up story seemingly trying to cover up that they don’t have enough advertisers to offer a contextual based service. Thus meaning they are in the same league or advertisement grouping which puts them along the lines of such services like ‘Bidvertiser.com’?

Who knows? No one, all we can do is speculate. “No one” - Actually I know, I remember emailing YPN back in 2006, when they did indeed have a ‘Contact us’ page, where you could contact them however this seems to have disappeared. This is the reply I got from them back in ‘06. I even have the case number so Yahoo can reference this and so I can prove this legit:

(PLEASE CLICK TO MAKE BIGGER)

Case number: #85440984 (Even though this is pretty useless, as you would have to get it confirmed by YPN and seeing as they seemingly don’t like to respond to emails anymore, I suspect the above email back from the email I sent them in 06′ was a guesstimate, which is off the scale) - Though I guess YPN could easily deny existence of this email, but seriously, it’s ‘08 NOW, it was ‘06 when I sent that. How long does it really take to develop a working system, with the time and money, they probably invested into YPN? They could have probably talked to Google about buying and sharing their system if they invested so much time and money into Yahoo Publisher Network!, which I’m seeing as a failing concept. - This is not because of the openness of this project (e.g. with them not allowing others to join the program outside of the US; or without a valid US tax) it’s becuase the current US ‘testers’ are leaving this project for Google AdSense. As it targets the World, where Yahoo Publisher Network! only targets the United States of America; so it has a huger audience to publishers/webmasters wanting to make big money with AdSense compared to Yahoo Publisher Network!, from wherever that IP/user visits and clicks on whatever ad with AdSense.

Though let’s expand on this 06′ I recieved a reply back from:

Apr 19 2006 14:15 PT

Hello,

As you know the Yahoo! Publisher Network self-serve platform is currently available as an invitation-only beta. Our goal is to learn from the feedback we receive during the initial beta period, refine the platform and add new features, then open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006. At this time we do not have a date set for release.

We’re looking forward to working with you to build a strong and successful community through the Yahoo! Publisher Network.

Sincerely,

Brian Anderson
Customer Solutions
Yahoo! Product Submit Team

Extract:

“Our goal is to learn from the feedback we receive during the initial beta period, refine the platform and add new features, then open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006″

So it takes over 2 years to learn from feedback? Believable due to the huge amounts of emails on an educated guess, though for this type of service, it simply is scary to think that it’s still in beta after so many years. So then Brian Aderson says “open the program up to the general publishing community by no later than the end of 2006“, 2006 has gone and passed, where is the stance of this program on giving the option of using such service for World use? Or for Countries which are similar to the properties which what the United States can offer in terms of ‘quality traffic’. I guess, we’ll never know, unless Yahoo either speaks out or gives us the lowdown/update on whats happening with their service in terms of offering such service to other Countries; as it doesn’t have to necessarily be the World!

Namecheap down May 15, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

So I was looking to update a couple of my domain names to new nameservers however I can’t as namecheap is down! I’m getting the following message when visiting their main website, I guess I’ll have to wait, but I don’t mind, as long as they don’t disappear like that other company *cough* Registerfly! Below is the error I’m getting with namecheap, hopefully they will be able to get their “Maintenance” over and done with ASAP, as I’m looking forward to changing my name servers, as I’m in dire need to change the nameservers (IPs) for my clients as they are being moved to another server.

This is the first time, I’v seen this kind of message on Namecheap.com, I have never actually seen this before, maybe I was paying attention? Either-way, they are down and I need to access my domains by this afternoon or I’ll have emails being shot at me from my clients saying what’s going and this and that! So namecheap, please hurry up with your Maintenance! I love namecheap’s service however it’s things like this which make people ‘think’ on the ability for namecheap to provide what it says.

Edit: It seems to be back up and running now, kudos to Namecheap.com!

Funny thread on FWS May 12, 2008

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

So it seems like I’m having the knack of commenting of forum posts, which I find somewhat funny… as said I have a weird sense of humour! Bassically this guy on freewebspace made a thread posting that he’d sponsor people with any web ideas or with current occuring websites, he said he’d pay for web hosting and anything really for a share of the profits that website is making. Here’s the thread:

http://freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=220763

So I guess if you have an idea, that need developing, I suggest you go to this guy as he seems quite genuine, though I will not authenticate that. :p - So choose him at your own risk. I guess I found him quite funny as he said: “Please do not TRY AND SCAM ME i am not a RETARD.”

I love this. :d

– Other news:

Interested in a competition? Well James from Free-space.net is offering up to a $1000 USD on a competition he is starting up which is similar to the show ‘The Apprentice’ however this seems totally web-based! I believe this competition actually might be a success as I’ve never seen anything like it on the Internet! - I’ve signed up for it myself, hopefully I can get my hands on that amount of cash, though I seriously don’t know how he can give all that money away! - Probably because he gets control of the web host which we the ‘apprentices’ or entrepreneurs build up, maybe he thinks we can build up succesful web hosts which are worth over what he is giving us, so he might be making money out of this! - If so, what an idea and kudos to him for thinking it up. :)

Take a look at that thread above and send off an application to James, I’m sure he’d be happy enough to accomadate whatever question you need answering. To finish it off, this is Sir Alan Sugar, with his famous catch phrase “You’re Fired!”:

Statistics!

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

Just some random statistics above, basically the Askimet picture is one from inside my wordpress admin control panel, and Askimet is a spam-combatting service which Wordpress provide in conjunction with Askimet! - It’s actually doing pretty good in stopping spam comments, thus why I installed it on the Vlexo blog. As for the other statistic that statistic is one from my Yahoo Mail, which I’ve had for around 2 years, I literally do have 17,000+ emails however I would say most of them are legit email though there are quite a few spam emails, that get deleted by me! - Urgh what a time waster! I hate spammers!

If you have any random statistics, please post em’ up here! Or write up a blog response on your own wordpress blog! :)

Oh free advertising

Posted by Jonathan in : Uncategorized , add a comment

What I love about free web hosting is that you can advertise your web host for free on big websites which can make you receive a modest amount of hits; unique hits. The most popular directories for free hosting are those with keywords which come up on google “Free Hosting”, “cPanel Hosting”, “Ad-Free Hosting”, “Post for hosting” and so on! I’ve basically used this method and have successfully found a lot of directory free web hosts or free web hosting review sites which offer the ability to advertise your host, by placing a small button on your website! - Which is all done for free, these websites rank in the PR6-7 range, and receive literally (or they must) over 100 thousand hits per day. - These are the websites you need to advertise on, if you really want to run a successful hosting business as you need to get your traffic from somewhere without straining on by posting on forums or even marketing. I mean I do still post my host on some fairly large forums, which are specifically for free hosting.

Moving on, I have actually compiled a list of websites/directories you can advertise on for free (Free hosts/Image hosts/File Hosts/Free services), I have these in a .txt file explaining each and every of these websites and how long they take to get back to emailing you. - It’s amazing what you can find on the web, you these free review/directory sites offering free linking on their directory while you have these other big websites saying you have to pay to advertise your free host in one’s directory. - Though I guess it’s the nut of the shell, you need to break the system and hopefully once you do this, just sit back and relax and watch the traffic flow in.
